Proprietary Blends Explained: What Sugar Reset's 200 mg Blend Can and Cannot Tell You
A proprietary blend is a group of ingredients printed under one total weight, listed from most to least, with no single amounts. Sugar Reset's blend is 200 mg per 1 mL serving, shared by 22 ingredients. Label order still sets a ceiling: gymnema, eighth, can be at most 25 mg per serving, while studies used 1,200 mg a day.

The basics
What is a proprietary blend on a supplement label?
It is a set of ingredients printed under one combined weight. The label must show that total and list the ingredients from most to least by weight. It does not have to show how much of each one is inside (21 CFR 101.36 (proprietary blends)).
The rule lets a company keep its recipe private. The cost lands on you. You can see what is in the bottle, but not how much of it you swallow.
On Sugar Reset, only chromium stands outside the blend, at 0.7 mcg per serving. The other 22 ingredients sit under one line: "Proprietary Blend 200 mg". Read the whole panel on our Sugar Reset Supplement Facts page.
The ceiling math
How much gymnema can Sugar Reset's blend hold?
At most 25 mg per serving. Label order alone proves it.
Because the list runs from heaviest to lightest, the ingredient in place 8 can weigh no more than 200 mg divided by 8. If it weighed more, the seven above it would weigh more too, and the total would pass 200 mg. The same rule works for every place on the list.
| Ingredient (place) | Most per 1 mL serving | Most per day at 2 droppers | Daily dose studied alone |
|---|---|---|---|
| Guarana (3rd) | 67 mg | 133 mg | Only studied in a 3-herb mix (NIH ODS: Supplements for weight loss) |
| African mango (4th) | 50 mg | 100 mg | 300 mg (NIH ODS: Supplements for weight loss) |
| Green tea (7th) | 29 mg | 57 mg | 141 mg or more of catechins (NIH ODS: Supplements for weight loss) |
| Gymnema (8th) | 25 mg | 50 mg | 1,200 mg (LiverTox: Gymnema) |
| Coleus forskohlii (9th) | 22 mg | 44 mg | 500 mg of extract (NIH ODS: Supplements for weight loss) |
| Panax ginseng (12th) | 17 mg | 33 mg | Not comparable: trials mostly used root |
These are ceilings, not estimates. Even so, gymnema's best case is 24 times below the studied daily dose.
A likelier picture
What if the 22 ingredients were split evenly?
An even split gives about 18 mg of each per day. It is only a guide: maca, listed first, holds the biggest share, and L-carnitine, listed last, holds the smallest. Compare the drops with one-herb products on Sugar Reset vs single-ingredient supplements.
Blind spots
What does a proprietary blend hide from you?
Caffeine
Guarana and green tea are caffeine sources. With no amounts, you cannot add the drops to your daily total.
The licorice compound
Monoammonium glycyrrhizinate is 18th. Its amount matters for blood pressure, and the label cannot tell you whether it is tiny or less tiny.
What actually does the work
If a blend contains 22 things, nobody can say which one, if any, explains a change in how you feel.

What should you check on any supplement with a proprietary blend?
Count the names
Divide the blend total by the number of ingredients. Twenty-two names in 200 mg leaves little room for each.
Find the ingredient you care about
Note its place and divide the total by that number. You now have its most possible amount.
Compare with the studied dose
Look up what trials used for that one ingredient. A big gap is worth knowing before you pay.
Ask the seller
Ask whether single amounts or a lab report are on file. For Sugar Reset, none are published; see testing and quality.
Our honest take
Is a proprietary blend a red flag?
Not by itself. Blends are legal and common, and Sugar Reset prints a full panel, a blend total and the chromium amount. The concern is scale: when 22 ingredients share 200 mg, most of them cannot reach the doses studies used. No study of Sugar Reset itself has been published, and chromium, the one printed amount, sits at 1.4 mcg a day against 200 to 1,000 mcg in trials (NIH ODS: Chromium). A 2019 review of 58 trials found small drops in fasting glucose and HbA1c of unclear clinical meaning. FAQ
Proprietary blend FAQ
What does proprietary blend mean on a supplement?
It means several ingredients are printed under one total weight, listed from most to least, without single amounts. U.S. rules allow this. On Sugar Reset, 22 ingredients share a 200 mg blend in each 1 mL serving, and only chromium has its own amount.
How much of each ingredient is in Sugar Reset?
Only chromium is printed, at 0.7 mcg per serving. The other 22 ingredients share 200 mg, so an even split is about 9 mg each per serving. The real shares are not published; maca, listed first, is the largest.
Are proprietary blends bad?
Not always. They are legal and can be well made. The drawback is that you cannot tell whether any ingredient reaches the dose used in studies. With many ingredients and a small total, like Sugar Reset's 200 mg, most likely do not.
Is there enough gymnema in Sugar Reset to work?
Nobody can say, because the amount is not printed. Label order caps it at 25 mg per serving, or 50 mg a day at 2 droppers. Gymnema studies used about 1,200 mg a day, and even then effects on diabetes were not shown.
Why do companies use proprietary blends?
A blend lets a company list its ingredients without revealing its recipe. The label still has to show the total weight and the order by weight. For buyers, the trade-off is less information about what each serving really contains.
Can my doctor tell if Sugar Reset is safe with my medicines?
Your doctor can check each ingredient name, but not the amounts, since the blend does not list them. Bring the bottle and your medicine list. The caffeine sources, licorice compound and grapefruit extract are the names most worth pointing out.
