Ingredient profile

Guarana in Sugar Reset: The Caffeine Source the Sales Page Skips

Quick answer

Guarana (Paullinia cupana) seed extract is the 3rd of 22 ingredients in the Sugar Reset blend, and it is a natural source of caffeine. The label does not print the caffeine per serving, and the sales page never names guarana. It has no blood sugar studies; it was only tested for weight inside a 3-herb mix (NIH ODS: Supplements for weight loss).

The basics

What is guarana, and why is it in Sugar Reset?

Guarana is a South American plant whose seeds are a natural source of caffeine (NIH ODS: Supplements for weight loss). Sugar Reset lists it as "Guarana (Paullinia cupana) Seed Extract".

The sales page highlights six ingredients. Guarana is not one of them, even though it ranks 3rd by weight in the blend. That ranking puts it ahead of every herb the sales page does name except maca.

Why is it there? The seller does not say. The NIH lists guarana among weight-loss ingredients for its caffeine.

The full label: guarana is the 3rd name in the 200 mg Proprietary Blend, right after maca and grape seed. No caffeine amount is printed.

Label facts

How much caffeine is in Sugar Reset?

The label does not say. Label order lets us set an upper limit, and it is well under the FDA's daily reference.

Only two ingredients come before guarana, and each weighs at least as much. So guarana can be at most one third of the 200 mg blend. That is about 66 mg of extract per serving, or about 133 mg a day at 2 droppers. Caffeine is only part of the extract, so the caffeine is lower still.

Even if both extracts were pure caffeine, which they are not, the total would stay under half of the 400 mg figure. So for most adults the caffeine is likely small. Small is not zero, and people who react to caffeine should know it is there.

Safety first

Who should be careful with guarana?

People who are sensitive to caffeine, pregnant or nursing, or on certain medicines should ask first.

The FDA says too much caffeine can cause a racing heart, higher blood pressure, trouble sleeping, anxiety and nausea. It names people who are pregnant, breastfeeding, sensitive to caffeine or taking certain medicines as the ones who should ask a provider (FDA: How much caffeine is too much).

  • High blood pressure or heart rhythm problems. Caffeine is one more push, and the blend also holds a licorice compound with its own blood pressure note (NCCIH: Licorice root).
  • Poor sleep. Caffeine can keep you awake, so a late dose of a caffeine source works against rest.
  • Coffee, tea or soda drinkers. Add your usual cups to whatever the drops supply. The label gives you no number to add.
  • Pregnant, nursing or under 18. The label itself says to consult a physician first.

Picture a 55-year-old man with type 2 diabetes who drinks three coffees by noon and wakes at 3 a.m. Before blaming stress, he could list every caffeine source he takes, drops included, and show that list to his doctor.

Timing

When should you take Sugar Reset if it contains caffeine?

Earlier is easier on sleep. The label sets no time and says only "Take 1 or 2 droppers full daily." The sales page suggests taking it in the morning, preferably before a meal. That timing comes from the seller, not the label.

A simple rule

Pick one morning time and keep it. One fixed time also stops you from taking a second dose by mistake. Never go above 2 droppers a day. Full routine on how to use Sugar Reset.

The studies

Does guarana help blood sugar or weight?

There is no blood sugar evidence. The weight data come from one mixed formula.

The NIH weight-loss fact sheet describes a study where people took 285 mg of guarana a day for 45 days. The guarana was mixed with two other herbs. Because of that mix, nobody can say what guarana did on its own (NIH ODS: Supplements for weight loss).

We found no study of guarana for blood sugar, A1C or insulin. The American Diabetes Association does not recommend herbal supplements for glucose control (ADA Standards of Care 2026, Section 5). In Sugar Reset, guarana is best read as a caffeine source, not a blood sugar ingredient.

Chromium figures come from the NIH fact sheet (NIH ODS: Chromium). Study doses for gymnema (LiverTox: Gymnema), African mango (Ngondi 2009 (African mango trial)) and forskolin (NIH ODS: Supplements for weight loss) are for one ingredient taken alone. Each one alone is close to or above the 400 mg that 2 droppers give for all 22 blend ingredients together.

Guarana takes one of the larger shares of the blend. That leaves even less room for the herbs the sales page does promote, such as gymnema.

FAQ

Guarana in Sugar Reset: common questions

Does Sugar Reset contain caffeine?

Yes. Guarana seed extract, 3rd in the blend, and green tea extract, 7th, are both caffeine sources. The label does not print the caffeine per serving. By label order, the two extracts together can be at most about 190 mg a day at 2 droppers.

Why isn't guarana mentioned on the Sugar Reset sales page?

The seller does not explain it. The sales page highlights six ingredients, and guarana is not among them, even though the label lists it 3rd by weight. We go by the label, which shows all 23 actives.

Is guarana safe for people with diabetes?

It has no known blood sugar effect in the sources we use, but its caffeine matters for sleep, heart rate and blood pressure. If you have diabetes plus high blood pressure or a heart condition, show the label to your doctor first.

Can guarana raise blood pressure?

Caffeine in large amounts can raise blood pressure and speed up the heart, the FDA says. The amount in Sugar Reset is likely small, but it is not printed. Ask your doctor first if your blood pressure is high.

Can I take Sugar Reset at night?

It is better not to. Guarana and green tea add caffeine, which can disturb sleep. The label sets no time of day; the sales page suggests the morning before a meal.

Does guarana help with weight loss?

The evidence is weak. The only study the NIH describes used 285 mg of guarana mixed with two other herbs for 45 days, so the effect of guarana alone is unknown.
