Gymnema sylvestre is a leaf used in Ayurvedic practice. Its leaf extract has blood-sugar-lowering effects, per the NIH liver injury database (LiverTox: Gymnema). That is the reason it is sold for blood sugar. It is also the reason it needs care.

Some diabetes medicines push glucose down on their own. Insulin, sulfonylureas such as glipizide and glimepiride, and meglitinides can all cause lows (NIDDK: Low blood glucose). Add a second thing that lowers glucose, and the two effects can stack.
